Vincent van Gogh Geocoin
Vincent Willem van Gogh lived from 30 March 1853 till 29 July 1890. He was a Dutch Post-Impressionist painter whose work had a far-reaching influence on 20th century art for its vivid colors and emotional impact. He suffered from anxiety and increasingly frequent bouts of mental illness throughout his life, and died largely unknown, at the age of 37, from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Design
The Vincent van Gogh Geocoin is a co-design by geocachingshop.nl and Van Stoffelen Sr. This is the first geocoin made by geocachingshop.nl which is located in Nuenen in the province of Noord-Brabant in The Netherlands. Vincent made several images in Nuenen.
The front of this geocoin is designed after Vincent’s 1885 painting ‘Wheatfields with stokes and a Mill’. This mill is in fact the Roosdonck mill, which is still in use. Nearby this mill a geocache can be found.
The other side of the geocoin is designed after a self-portrait of Vincent.
